LITHUANIAN AND UKRAINIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS MEET IN KYIV

On 9 November, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with his Ukrainian counterpart Kostyantyn Gryschenko in Kyiv. The Ministers discussed the bilateral relations devoting the greatest attention to the perspectives of commercial and economic cooperation after Lithuania’s accession into the EU. The Ministers also explored the possibility to conclude the negotiations on several important bilateral agreements in the nearest future. During the meeting, Minister Valionis paid a special attention to the negotiations with Ukraine in the context of Ukraine’s joining the World Trade Organisation. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister reiterated Lithuania’s request to reduce the tariffs for certain Lithuanian goods exported to Ukraine. During his visit in Kyiv on 9-10 November, Minister Valionis also met with Ukrainian First Deputy Minister for European Integration Oleksandr Chalyi. At this meeting, various aspects of relations between the enlarged EU and Ukraine and the bilateral economic issues were discussed.
