Lithuanian and Slovakian Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral and regional cooperation, the region’s security environment
On 15 January, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign and European Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav Lajčák. The Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral and regional cooperation, security policy, migration, energy security, the situation in Ukraine and relations with Russia.
In the meeting, the Foreign Ministers noted the need to join forces to unanimously implement security measures agreed upon at NATO’s Wales Summit and to adequately prepare for the next NATO Summit in Warsaw.
“NATO has to demonstrate determination and unity, and show the Alliance’s vitality in the context of the current threats,” said Linkevičius
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister also welcomed cooperation with Slovakian officials to address energy security challenges.
The head of the Slovakian diplomacy Lajčák arrived in Lithuania to participate in the ongoing traditional informal ‘Snow Meeting’. He is attending the event in Trakai for the sixth time already.
On the same day in Trakai, Minister Linkevičius met with the Advisor to the Polish President Krzysztof Szczerski and discussed bilateral issues, security and the Eastern Neighbourhood policy.
