LITHUANIAN AND RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS EXCHANGED LETTERS OF CONGRATULATION ON 15TH ANNIVERSARY OF RESTORATION OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

On 9 October Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergej Lavrov exchanged letters of congratulation commemorating the 15th anniversary of restoration of diplomatic relations.
In his letter Minister Vaitiekūnas remembered the moments of “upsurge in bilateral relations” – heartfelt support of Russian people to Lithuania in hard days of January 1991, bilateral agreement on the foundations of interstate relations signed on 29 July 1991, withdrawal of the army, signing and ratification of agreements on national borders.
The Minister expressed hope that Lithuania and Russia will use historic opportunity to create the space of cooperation and mutual confidence in the region.
