LITHUANIAN AND RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSSED TOPICAL BILATERAL ISSUES
On 23 September Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov concerning the current situation after Russian military aircraft’s crash in Lithuania.
Lithuanian and Russian ministers agreed that this incident should be investigated promptly and all related circumstances should be found out.
The heads of Lithuanian and Russian diplomacies agreed to convene the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission as quickly as possible to settle the bilateral issues on the agenda.
Discussing the preparations for the EU-Russia Council Lithuanian Foreign Minister emphasised, that it is important to draft carefully the EU-Russia agreement on visa regime.
Antanas Valionis expressed an opinion that the cancellation of free visas for inhabitants of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation travelling from the Kaliningrad region to Lithuania and from Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region will have negative impact on the countries’ cooperation.
