LITHUANIAN AND RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSSED PRESENT STATUS AND PERSPECTIVES OF BILATERAL COOPERATION

On 14 March Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergej Lavrov. The ministers discussed present status and perspectives of Lithuanian and Russian bilateral cooperation. Speaking about the Anniversary of the end of Second World War, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs told that Russia regrets Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus not going to Moscow but respects the decision of the President of Lithuania. The ministers agreed on necessity of further joint efforts towards development of Lithuanian and Russian relations, settling specific issues of bilateral political and economic cooperation. These issues should be considered during Lithuanian Foreign Minister’s working visit to Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister confirmed his intention to attend NATO-Russian Foreign ministers meeting in Vilnius on 21-22 April. The head of Russian diplomacy also informed that Russian Ambassador to Lithuania Boris Tsepov would continue work in Vilnius.
