LITHUANIAN AND ROMANIAN MFA CONSULTATIONS WERE HELD IN VILNIUS
On 14 April in Vilnius, Political Director of Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Eitvydas Bajarūnas and General Director for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Ştefan Tinca discussed issues of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative, the EU’s relations with Russia, Lithuania’s forthcoming Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in 2011.
During the consultations between the Lithuanian and Romanian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, the officials agreed to cooperate regularly in implementing the EU Eastern Partnership initiative, in developing relationships with countries that participate in it, and in implementing specific OSCE projects.
E.Bajarūnas thanked Romania for its active involvement into the activities of the Community of Democracies and for the consent to head the Working Group on Regional and Interregional Cooperation for Democratic Governance.
Community of Democracies is an intergovernmental structure. The goal of this organisation is to strengthen and deepen democratic norms and practices worldwide. In 2009, Lithuania started its two-year long Presidency of the Community, which is comprised of over 100 countries.
