Lithuanian and Polish Ministers of Foreign Affairs Have Discussed Situation in Belarus

During their phone conversation of 6 August Minister Linas Linkevičius and his Polish counterpart Jacek Czaputowicz discussed the situation in Belarus. The Ministers agreed to continue to carefully monitor the situation in the neighbouring state, to co-ordinate their actions and highlighted the importance of co-ordination at the EU level.

During the conversation they stressed once more how important it was for the Belarusian government structures not to use excessive force against the opposition and the media.

According to Linas Linkevičius, the day after the election might become key for forecasting the future of Belarus.

Linas Linkevičius and Jacek Czaputowicz underscored that Lithuania and Poland were interested in and supported the preservation of Belarus’s independence and sovereignty and were ready to contribute both at bilateral and international level.

Moreover, the Ministers pointed to the possibility of Belarus joining the activities of the Lublin Triangle, recently formed by Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.
