LITHUANIAN AND POLISH EXPERTS DISCUSS NAME WRITING POSSIBILITIES FOR RECIPROCAL ETHNIC MINORITIES IN THE TWO COUNTRIES

On June 19, consultations between Lithuanian and Polish experts took place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where technical possibilities of writing personal names and surnames of both the Lithuanian ethnic minority in Poland and the Polish ethnic minority in Lithuania were discussed. Director of the First Department of Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas lead the delegation of the Lithuanian experts. The head of their Polish counterparts was Director of Legal and Treaty Department of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jan Michalowski. The consultations brought about an exchange of opinions on the compliance of name representation in identity documents with the legal frameworks and technical capabilities of both countries. The expert delegations agreed to consider these issues until the next meeting, the date of which would be settled through diplomatic channels.
