LITHUANIAN AND PAKISTANI MFA HELD CONSULTATIONS ON THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 7 June the second bilateral consultations of Lithuanian and Pakistani Ministries of Foreign Affairs were held in Vilnius.

During these consultations the principal aspects of Lithuanian-Pakistani cooperation, the main problems and future perspectives of relationship development were discussed.

The delegation from Pakistan was headed by Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Undersecretary for European Affairs Athar Mahmood, and the Lithuanian delegation  by MFA Undersecretary Dalius Čekuolis.

During the consultations Pakistan’s representatives proposed to sign both countries’ MFA cooperation protocol and agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of Lithuanian and Pakistani diplomatic and service passports. Pakistan had already signed such agreements with most European Union member states.

The Pakistani delegation also introduced their country’s intentions to establish a consulate headed by an Honorary Consul in Vilnius.

The Lithuanian delegation acquainted the colleagues from Pakistan with changes occurred in Lithuania after its accession to the EU, the topicalities of Eastern and Central Europe region, development of Lithuania’s economy.

During the consultations the main problems of Central Asia and the world, fight with international terrorism, United Nations Security Council reform, Lithuania’s and Pakistan’s contribution to the reconstruction of Afghanistan were considered.
