LITHUANIAN AND NORWEGIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS LITHUANIAN EU COUNCIL PRESIDENCY AND BILATERAL COOPERATION
On 29 July in Vilnius, Linas Linkevičius, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in a meeting with Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, introduced important issues of the Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union and stressed active bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Norway. The Foreign Ministers discussed the EU-Norway relations, the issues of European Economic Area/European Free Trade Association, energy and regional cooperation. Eastern Partnership Policy and preparation for the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius was one of the main topics during the discussion.
L.Linkevičius thanked Norway for supporting Lithuania’s goal to build an alternative gas supply and to develop gas market. Norway’s interest in gas export to the LNG terminal which is under construction in Klaipėda would be beneficial to both sides.
Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy is planning to participate in the conference on Completion of EU Internal Energy Market to be held in Vilnius on 4-5 November, 2013.
