LITHUANIAN AND LATVIAN MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS DISCUSSED ISSUES OF BILATERAL COOPERATION

On 12 August during the informal meeting in Palanga Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis discussed with his Latvian counterpart Artis Pabriks issues of bilateral cooperation.

The ministers talked over Lithuanian and Latvian strategic partnership treaty that is planned to be signed till the end of this year. Possibilities of countries’ cooperation in representing Lithuania and Latvia in third countries were also considered.

Latvian Foreign Minister drew attention to road fees for heavy vehicles in Lithuania, the issue of nuclear waste storage was also addressed. A.Valionis assured that the issue of nuclear waste storage will be discussed openly and also scientific research of environmental impact to be carried out regularly and the general public to be informed about the results.

The ministers also discussed issues of eastern policy, relations with Belarus and Moldova, enlargement of the European Union, ratification of EU Constitution, EU financial perspective.
