On 15 February, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis goes on a working visit to Riga.
During the visit A. Valionis and Latvian Foreign Minister Artis Pabriks will sign Lithuanian and Latvian governmental agreement on repayment of a debt to Latvia for maintenance of Lithuanian embassy in Washington.
Under this agreement Lithuania commits to pay 1,5 million US dollars debt to Latvia. This debt accumulated in 1981-1991 due to financing of activities of Lithuanian embassy in Washington.
In 1980 when Lithuanian gold reserve kept in the U.S. ran out, Charge d’affaires a. i. of Latvian Republic in the U.S. agreed to grant Lithuania an interest-free loan.
Lithuanian and Latvian Foreign Ministers also plan to discuss topical bilateral, EU and NATO issues.
