LITHUANIAN AND LATVIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSSED BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 10 November Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs had a working dinner with Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Artis Pabriks who paid a visit to Vilnius. The Ministers discussed important issues of bilateral relations: cross-border cooperation, the Rail Baltica and energy projects in the region. “The Rail Baltica is an important project having long-term strategic significance and uniting our states,” Minister Vaitiekūnas said.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister also informed his Latvian counterpart about the implementation of the Joint Statement on Cross-border Cooperation signed by Lithuanian and Latvian Foreign Ministers on 5 October in Liepaja. The Ministers agreed that the work of the Lithuanian-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission on Cross-Border Cooperation should be made more active.

At the meeting such issues as events in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine as well as cooperation in international organizations were discussed.
