Lithuanian and Japanese diplomats hold consultations on economic cooperation

On 18 March in Tokyo, the Director of the External Economic Relations Department of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Rasa Adomaitienė met with Yasushi Masaki, Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold exhaustive consultations on economic diplomacy.

The officials focused on Lithuania’s prospects of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Lithuania intensely cooperates with this international organization as one of the main candidates to begin accession negotiations already in 2015.

According to R.Adomaitienė, precisely because of this reason the support of Japan’s OECD Presidency in 2014 is highly appreciated by Lithuania.

The delegations of Lithuanian and Japanese experts also shared the experience of economic diplomacy on both sides, discussed the EU-Japan Free Trade Agreement negotiations and priorities for bilateral economic cooperation.

Lithuanian Embassy in Japan organised the meetings one week after the visit of the Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius to this country.
