LITHUANIAN AND GEORGIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSSED ENERGY SECURITY ISSUES
On 25 January Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis had a telephone conversation with his Georgian counterpart Gela Bezhuashvili concerning gas and electricity supply problems in Georgia.
According to Mr Bezhuashvili, Russia has not yet restored gas and electricity supply to Georgia and gas is supplied from Azerbaijan. 2,5 million cubic meters a day that Georgia receives now are enough only for survival. To satisfy fully Georgia’s energy needs 4 million cubic meters a day are necessary.
Foreign ministers also discussed the importance of energy policy for the European Union.
Foreign Minister of Georgia also informed the Head of Lithuanian diplomacy about discussions with representatives of EU countries and institutions that took place in Berlin and Brussels this week. In his turn Minister Valionis assured Mr Bezhuashvili that energy security is one of priorities of the EU agenda.
