Lithuanian and French Ministers sign the Strategic Partnership Action Plan
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, is on a working visit to France. Budrys met with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot in Paris. Lithuanian and French Ministers signed a bilateral Strategic Partnership Action Plan for 2025-2029.
The Lithuanian-French Action Plan aims to deepen the strategic partnership and strengthen the European Union's ability to face today's challenges. The document signed by Budrys and Barrot states that Lithuania and France seek to strengthen bilateral political cooperation, continue support for Ukraine, strengthen coordination on key European issues, and deepen cooperation in the areas of defence, security, and economy.
“In recent years, Lithuania’s and France’s positions have converged significantly on key issues of the European strategic agenda. At the same time, we condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and strongly support Ukraine. Lithuania and France have taken measures to strengthen Europe's security and resilience, we have a regular dialogue on the international agenda, and we have significantly strengthened bilateral cooperation," the document reads.
The Action Plan, signed by the Ministers, also provides for the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation by promoting interparliamentary dialogue, holding regular consultations between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and National Defence of Lithuania and France, and continuing the exchange of relevant experience and positions between officials and diplomats of both countries on the most pressing items on the international agenda.
A political declaration establishing the Strategic Partnership between Lithuania and France was signed in 2009, based on which an action plan is prepared every five years, reflecting the quality, diversity, and increasing development of bilateral relations at the highest level between Lithuania and France.
