Lithuanian and Chinese Foreign Ministers discuss bilateral trade and implementation of Minsk Agreements

On the eve of the debate of the United Nations Security Council on 22 February in New York, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi discussed strengthening trade relations, in particular, promoting export of Lithuanian meat and dairy products to China. The Chinese Minister assured that China was interested in importing food products and valued the high quality of Lithuanian food products.

During the meeting the Foreign Ministers have agreed to advance signing of an Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Academic Degrees in Higher Education to promote student exchange.

Wang Yi expressed China’s interest in participating in the railway construction projects of the Baltic countries, as China has good experience implementing large transport infrastructure projects.

Minister Linkevičius welcomed China’s initiative to hold the debates of the UN Security Council to commemorate the end of the World War II and the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations, noting that “the violation of the principles of the Charter by one of the permanent members of the Security Council, which is forcefully redrawing the map and carrying out aggression against Ukraine, poses a serious threat for world peace”. The Chinese Minister expressed respect for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and underlined the importance of the implementation of the Minsk Agreements.
