Lithuanian and Austrian representatives discuss the possibility for strengthening bilateral political cooperation
The Lithuanian-Austrian political consultations took place on 22 March in Vilnius. The delegations were led by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germans and Johannes Peterlik, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs in the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria.
The officials discussed relevant issues of bilateral political, consular and economic cooperation, particularly in the field of energy. The diplomats exchanged views on perspectives of the Eastern Partnership policy, the next European elections, the multiannual financial perspective, the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union, the EU enlargement process in the Western Balkans, and other important global policy issues.
The heads of the delegations agreed to strengthen cooperation between the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry and the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, as well as to hold regular consultations.
The Austrian officials also attended events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of an Austrian Literature Reading Room at the Vilnius County Adomas Mickevičius Public Library.
Johannes Peterlik was appointed as the Secretary General for Foreign Affairs in the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria in 2018.
