LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR - VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE UN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL
On 17 January Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Gediminas Šerkšnys was elected Vice-President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Tunisian Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ali Hachani was elected the President of ECOSOC. Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Gediminas Šerkšnys, representing Eastern Europe regional group, Icelandic Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Hjálmar W. Hannesson, representing regional group of Western Europe and other countries, Haitian Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Leo Merores, representing Latin America and Caribbean regional group, and Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Prasad Kariyawasam, representing Asia regional group were elected Vice-Presidents.
This was the first time Lithuanian representative was elected Vice-President for one year. Vice-President of ECOSOC takes part in decision making in ECOSOC Bureau, coordinated his segment of activity, acts for the President of ECOSOC.
