Lithuanian Ambassador V. Sarapinas presents his letters of credence to President of Ukraine

On 30 July, the Ambassador of Lithuania Valdemaras Sarapinas presented his letters of credence to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

During the meeting, the Ambassador affirmed Lithuania’s strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and expressed hope that all parties would sustain the ceasefire that had begun on 27 July.

“Ukraine has made significant progress in implementing important reforms. The Fourth Ukraine Reform Conference to be held in Vilnius in 2021 will contribute to strengthening the reform process. Lithuania will continue to actively support the process of European integration and Ukraine’s accession to NATO," said the Ambassador.

The Ambassador also congratulated Ukraine on its recognition by NATO as an Enhanced Opportunities Partner. The Lithuanian Armed Forces provides support to Ukraine’s reforms in the fields of military education and training, and continues the program for medical rehabilitation of injured Ukrainian soldiers in Lithuania. Under the program, more than 250 wounded Ukrainian soldiers have received medical and rehabilitation services.

V. Sarapinas noted that Lithuania also allocated funding for projects under the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Program of Lithuania in Ukraine. For example, Lithuania has launched a project “Installation of educational and sporting facilities in Avdijivka School No. 2 in the Donetsk Region, Ukraine” (worth EUR 1 million).

The interlocutors also discussed bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation.

The President of Ukraine V. Zelenskyy thanked Lithuania for its consistent support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for practical support when the war had just broken out in Ukraine.
