LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR TO THE HOLY SEE PRESENTED HIS CREDENTIALS TO THE POPE

On 7 November, at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican, Lithuanian Ambassador to the Holy See Vytautas Ališauskas presented his credentials to Pope Benedict XVI.

In his speech, the Pope noted that Lithuania has a long Christian history, descending from the times of St. Casimir and even earlier centuries. He also said that the Lithuanian people’s faith always helped them to maintain and strengthen their identity during the hardest years of oppression.

Ambassador V. Ališauskas spoke about the visit of Pope John Paul II to Lithuania in 1993 and mentioned the significant changes that have occurred in Lithuania since then.

Ambassador V. Ališauskas is the third Lithuanian ambassador to the Holy See.
