LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR TO SWEDEN LAUNCHED A BOOK ON THE OCCASION OF THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RE-ESTABLISHMENT OF DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS BETWEEN LITHUANIA AND SWEDEN
At the discussion “Lithuania and Sweden: partnership development and prospects” that took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 July, Lithuanian Ambassador to Sweden Remigijus Motuzas said that to Lithuanians Sweden had always been an example of how to run a country.
During the event, Ambassador launched his book about Lithuania’s diplomatic representation in Sweden that tells the re-established and integrated history of Lithuania’s diplomatic representation in Sweden from ancient times to the present day.The book that was published on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations describes intensive and changeable history of cooperation between Lithuania and Sweden.
“Sweden has always been one of Lithuania’s closest Scandinavian countries. The Swedish have given us moral support and promoted cultural exchanges during difficult historical periods for Lithuania,” R.Motuzas said.
According to him, already after the First World War first Lithuanians who came to Sweden were actively engaged in public, political and information activities.
During the discussion, Ambassador-at-Large of the Foreign Ministry, historian Vytautas Žalys commented on the book by R.Motuzas saying that it “significantly fills the gap in the quality literature about ties between Lithuania and the Scandinavian countries.”
The book contains a wealth of previously unpublished material. The publication is based on genuine documents from Swedish and Lithuanian archives, sources and lively memoirs of Swedish and Lithuanian historians, diplomats and prominent members of the Lithuanian community in Sweden.
