LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR TO SPAIN VISITS ALMERIA AND BARCELONA

On 27-28 July, Lithuanian Ambassador to Spain Mečys Laurinkus accompanied by Lithuanian Honorary Consul Antonio Herrada Garcia visited the Province of Almeria where about 25,000 Lithuanians reside. The Ambassador met with the Spanish Government Representative in the Province Miguel Corpas Ibanez, City Municipality officials, officers of the police and civil guards. The meetings addressed issues concerning the Lithuanian community in the Province, the legal status of Lithuanian residents and document legalisation on Lithuania‘s accession to the European Union. The Ambassador also inquired about the violations of law by immigrant Lithuanians and possible cooperation between Lithuania and Spanish law enforcement bodies. The local police noted that resident Lithuanians had not been known as criminals, but rather as good and diligent workers. On July 28 in Barcelona Ambassador Laurinkus held a meeting with Lithuanian Honorary Consul Miguel Vila Regard to discuss topical issues of consular work.
