On 6 November, the Ambassador of Lithuania in Italy Jolanta Balčiūnienė presented her letters of credence to the Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) José Graziano da Silva.

In the meeting, the officials discussed further cooperation between Lithuania and the organization. The Ambassador noted that Lithuania had experienced experts in veterinary medicine, agriculture and crop production. According to the Ambassador, their expertise would benefit the organization’s expert activities. The Director-General voiced his opinion that such experience was much-needed in the organization. The employment of Lithuanian citizens in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization was also discussed. The Ambassador drew attention to the fact that only 2 Lithuanian nationals were employed in the organization, although 6 could be employed according to the established quota.
