LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED MEXICAN STATES
On 24 October Lithuanian Ambassador Audrius Brūzga presented credentials to the President of the United Mexican States Felipe Calderon Hinojosa. During the meeting bilateral relations between Lithuania and Mexico were discussed. President of Mexico F. Calderon and Lithuanian Ambassador A. Brūzga expressed willingness to develop business and cultural relations between the two countries more actively.
During the conversation it was agreed to discuss the possibility to organize joint events to mark two forthcoming important dates: the millennium anniversary of the first mention of Lithuania’s name in 2009 and 200th anniversary of Mexico’s independence in 2010.
During the meeting President F. Calderon stated that Mexico is especially interested in developing trade relations with the European Union.
The parties paid special attention to the issue of energy security. A. Brūzga presented Vilnius Energy Security Conference held on 10-11 October and its results to the President of Mexico. F. Calderon noted that the restructuring of energy sector and renewable energy sources are very important issues for Mexico as one of the world’s biggest oil exporters. The President was also interested in Lithuanian experience of implementing structural economic reforms and energy projects under way.
During the visit Ambassador A. Brūzga met with the senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico and discussed the prospects for cooperation of the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture and education.
Ambassador A. Brūzga is the fourth Lithuanian Ambassador accredited to Mexico and residing in Washington.
Lithuania and Mexico established diplomatic relations on 5 November 1991.
