LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF TAJIKISTAN
On 26 January, Lithuanian Ambassador Romualdas Kozyrovičius presented credentials to President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon. Ambassador R.Kozyrovičius conveyed to President E.Rahmon best regards from President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus.
The President of Tajikistan and the Lithuanian Ambassador discussed the first official visit of the President to Lithuania, which is scheduled in February 2009. President E.Rahmon will be accompanied by a numerous delegation of Tajikistan’s businessmen. During the visit, the Lithuanian-Tajik business forum will be organised.
The President of Tajikistan highlighted the interest of his country to strengthen cooperation with Lithuania in the areas of energy, food processing and state border protection, to develop exchange in the fields of education and culture.
Lithuania and Tajikistan established diplomatic relations on 13 August 1992.
Residing in Kazakhstan, Ambassador R.Kozyrovičius is the second Lithuanian Ambassador accredited to the Republic of Tajikistan.
In January-October 2008, the trade turnover between Lithuania and Tajikistan amounted to 99.2 million Litas and, compared to the corresponding period in 2007, it has grown by 55.2 %.
Lithuania’s trade balance with Tajikistan was positive and comprised 98.8 million Litas.
