LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF SWITZERLAND

On 3 October Lithuanian Ambassador Vytautas Petras Plečkaitis presented credentials to President of Switzerland Micheline Calmy-Rey.

The President of Switzerland welcomed the first Lithuanian Ambassador, who resides in Switzerland, and said she was certain that the appointment of the Lithuanian representative would strengthen the cooperation between the two countries even more.

During the meeting the Ambassador thanked for the solidarity support of the Government of Switzerland to Lithuania – about 150 million Litas to finance bilateral projects. The Ambassador assured the President of Switzerland that the agreement regarding the specific projects of support would be signed in the nearest future.  

President of Switzerland M.Calmy-Rey showed interest in the relations between Lithuania and its neighbouring countries, problems of emigration and foreign investments in Lithuania. Lithuanian Ambassador expressed trust that the opportunity to benefit from the support of the Government of Switzerland to bilateral projects would raise the interest of Swiss businessmen in Lithuania.

Lithuania and Switzerland established diplomatic relations on 5 September 1991.
