LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF SLOVENIA
On 16 January Giedrius Puodžiūnas, Lithuanian Ambassador residing in Vienna presented credentials to President of Slovenia Dr Janez Drnovšek. Lithuanian Ambassador congratulated Slovenia on introduction of the euro. The Ambassador noted that European Union’s membership offers Lithuania and Slovenia new possibilities for bilateral political and economic cooperation, and for sharing experience on topical EU issues.
President of Slovenia Dr Drnovšek emphasised that Slovenia and Lithuania are similar and can cooperate successfully working towards common goals – further enlargement of the EU and lasting security and stability of the EU and neighbour states.
At the meeting with the President of the National Assembly France Cukjati successful cooperation of parliamentary groups of both countries was welcomed, possibilities for future Lithuanian-Slovenian interparliamentary cooperation were discussed.
Ambassador Puodžiūnas also met representatives of Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed the development of Lithuanian-Slovenian bilateral relations before Slovenia’s Presidency of the EU in the first half of 2008. The participants of the meeting also considered establishment of a division of Lithuanian Embassy in Austria in Ljubljana, possibilities of Lithuanian-Slovenian consultations on topical EU policy issues, plans for future visits.
