LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF ROMANIA
On 26 February, Lithuanian Ambassador Vladimir Jarmolenko presented credentials to the President of Romania Traian Basescu. President T.Basescu welcomed the successful bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Romania, as well as the cooperation of the two countries in the Euro-Atlantic organisations. The President indicated that like Lithuania, Romania, which was actively preparing for the upcoming NATO Summit in Bucharest on 2-4 April, supported Ukrainian and Georgian goal to join the NATO Membership Action Plan.
During the conversation with the President, Ambassador V.Jarmolenko was also glad that cooperation between Lithuania and Romania in economy, culture and other areas intensified, that the investments grew, and that there was exchange of experts in all spheres. According to the Ambassador, from the beginning of the functioning of the Lithuanian Embassy in Romania, the trade between Lithuania and Romania grew almost by 80%. V.Jarmolenko expressed trust that bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Romania would strengthen even more in the future.
Ambassador V. Jarmolenko is the first Lithuanian Ambassador residing in Romania. The Lithuanian Embassy in Bucharest was opened on 3 January, 2006.
Lithuania and Romania re-established diplomatic relations on 13 September, 1991.
