LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF PORTUGAL
On 28 May in Lisbon Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Portuguese Republic Algimantas Rimkūnas presented credentials to President of the Portuguese Republic Anibal Cavaco Silva.
During the conversation Ambassador A.Rimkūnas and President C.Silva indicated that the pending visit of President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus to Portugal would give a new impetus to bilateral relations of both countries. It is of crucial importance that the visit shall occur in the beginning of Portuguese EU Presidency. Therefore, it will provide a good opportunity to discuss positions of both countries on the issues of the EU Constitutional agreement, energy policy, Neighbourhood policy, migration and further Lisbon strategy implementation.
Algimantas Rimkūnas is already the second Lithuanian Ambassador to Portugal residing in Lisbon.
Lithuania and Portugal established diplomatic relations on 4 October, 1991.
