LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF MEXICO AND INVITED HIM TO VISIT LITHUANIA

On 12 August in Mexico, Lithuanian Ambassador Žygimantas Pavilionis presented credentials to President of Mexico Felipe Calderón and conveyed to him the invitation of President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė to visit Lithuania.

Ambassador congratulated the President of Mexico with the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries and stressed their mutual experience that Lithuania and Mexico had gained when fighting for freedom, democracy and the welfare of their people, also the contribution of the leader of Mexico to the fostering of these principles.

According to the Ambassador, the visit of F.Calderón to Lithuania would allow strengthening this value-based alliance between the two countries, and would facilitate the establishment of more active business ties between Mexico and Lithuania, as well as in  the wider Baltic Sea region.

During the meeting, Ž.Pavilionis spoke about the support of Mexico to Lithuania’s two-year Presidency of the Community of Democracies and remembered that Mexican Senator Adriana González was one of the most active members of the Parliamentary Forum of the Community of Democracies.

The President of Mexico confirmed his intention to visit Lithuania and other countries in the region, praised Lithuania’s Presidency of the Community of Democracies, took interest in perspectives for Lithuania’s recovering economy, energy independence goals, relations with neighboring countries, the spread of democracy in the region, and Lithuania’s future Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Ž.Pavilionis is the fifth ambassador of Lithuania to Mexico. He resides in Washington, D.C. Lithuania and Mexico re-established diplomatic relations on 5 November 1991. Currently, the economy of Mexico is the 11th largest in the world according to GDP.
