LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF MACEDONIA
On 17 December, Lithuanian ambassador Darius Semaška presented credentials to President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Brank Crvenkovski. Ambassador indicated that Lithuania supported Macedonia’s decision to integrate into the European Union and NATO, and emphasized Lithuania’s readiness to assist Macedonia on this path, sharing the necessary experience.
Macedonian President B.Crvenkovski expressed trust that Macedonia would be invited to join NATO during the next meeting of the leaders of the member states of the alliance in April of 2008, in Bucharest. The President also indicated that the accreditation of a Lithuanian ambassador to Macedonia would doubtlessly intensify bilateral political and economic relations.
Lithuanian ambassador also met with Chairman of the Assembly of Macedonia Lyubisha Georgievsky, officials of Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy of Macedonia as well as representatives of the institutions working in the area of foreign investment and economic development.
The officials of Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked Lithuania for the offered assistance, welcomed the intensified bilateral relations and conveyed an invitation to Lithuanian Prime Minister to visit Macedonia. Macedonian representatives working in the area of economy informed about the implementation of reforms and invited Lithuanian investors to Macedonia.
Lithuania and Macedonia established diplomatic relations on 11 July in 1995.
