LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF CYPRUS
On 18 December, in Nicosia, Lithuanian ambassador Artūras Žurauskas presented credentials to President of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos. During the meeting, the President and the ambassador welcomed the strengthening of Lithuanian-Cyprus relations in various areas and their further successful development. Ambassador stressed that both countries currently were undergoing important changes: Lithuania was joining the Schengen area and Cyprus was to become a member of the Eurozone.
During the conversation, the Cyprus dispute was mentioned. The ambassador emphasized that he understood the core of the problem and expressed full support of Lithuania for the territorial integrity and independence of Cyprus. A.Žurauskas also expressed trust that the problem was soon to be solved in a just and peaceful way.
Ambassador A.Žurauskas, residing in Athens, is the third Lithuanian ambassador to Cyprus.
Lithuania and Cyprus established diplomatic relations on 3rd December in 1992.
