LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF CROATIA
Lithuanian ambassador Giedrius Puodžiūnas presented credentials to the President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić on 9 February. During the meeting with the President of the Republic of Croatia, ambassador G.Puodžiūnas, who permanently resides in Austria, marked that current European integration processes offer new possibilities for the development of cooperation between Lithuania and Croatia. According to the ambassador, Lithuania remains a supporter of Croatia’s EU and NATO membership aspirations and is prepared to share its experience.
Ambassador G.Puodžiūnas was happy about the bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Croatia, which was successfully developing in the spheres of education, culture and tourism, while the Lithuanian investment in Croatia was growing as well.
The President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesić emphasized that integration into the EU and NATO was a strategy of foreign policy of Croatia and thanked Lithuania for its support. The President stated that in the sphere of bilateral cooperation Croatia was especially interested in the development of economic cooperation between Lithuania and Croatia.
During the conversation it was stressed that the forthcoming first official visit of the President of the Republic of Croatia to Lithuania, which is due in the end of February this year, will give new impetus to bilateral cooperation.
During his visit to Zagreb, ambassador G.Puodžiūnas met with Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Vladimir Seks, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Director of EU Political Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Croatia Neven Pelicarić, Vice-President of Croatian Privatization Fund Ivan Gotovac and Assistant Director of Croatian National Tourist Board Milo Sršen. During the meetings relevant issues of bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Croatia were discussed.
