LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA

On 30 May, Lithuanian Ambassador Giedrius Apuokas presented credentials to the President of Armenia Serzh Sarkissian. During the conversation with the President, Ambassador expressed Lithuania’s interest to strengthen relations with Armenia in the areas of economy and culture. Lithuania is also keen to share with Armenia its experience of communication with the European Union and NATO.

S.Sarkissian emphasized that the Armenian-Lithuanian relations were friendly and expressed a wish to profit from Lithuania’s experience of implementing reforms and cooperating with international institutions.

The President of Armenia also expressed an intention to open an Armenian Embassy in Lithuania in 2009, which would enliven mutual relations of the citizens of the two countries, would help to broaden cultural cooperation, and would increase the volume of trade.

In 2007, export from Lithuania to Armenia was 3,5 million Litas, import from Armenia to Lithuania was 0,3 million Litas.

In 2007, the turnover of trade between Lithuania and Armenia was 3,8 million Litas. The trade balance was positive and reached 3,2 million Litas.

Lithuania and Armenia established diplomatic relations on 21 November, 1991.

Ambassador G.Apuokas is the first Ambassador of Lithuania, who resides in Armenia. The Lithuanian Embassy in Yerevan was established on 1 October, 2007.
