LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE KING OF SAUDI ARABIA

On 11 January in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Lithuanian Ambassador Ginutis Dainius Voveris presented credentials to King of Saudi Arabia Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud.

During the conversation with the King, the Ambassador conveyed compliments from President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and wishes for peace, prosperity and success. Returning the compliments, the King expressed his belief that the accreditation of the Ambassador would promote and deepen relations that were beneficial for both countries, and would help to identify new areas of cooperation between the countries.

During the visit in Riyadh, G.D.Voveris met with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and representatives from associated business structures. Ambassador also paid a visit to Jeddah, the commercial capital of Saudi Arabia. 

Residing in Egypt, G.D.Voveris is the first Lithuanian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is an influential country in the Arab world, which has the greatest economy among the Persian Gulf countries. The country has 25% of world’s explored resources of oil and occupies an exceptional place in the world of Islam, as King Abdallah bin Abd al-Aziz Al Saud is titled the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. These are the two holiest Mosques in Islam.

In 2007, Lithuania exported agricultural products for over 165 million Litas to Saudi Arabia.

Lithuania and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations on 31 October 2005.
