LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR PRESENTED CREDENTIALS TO THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF AUSTRALIA

On 2 October at Government House, Canberra, Lithuanian Ambassador Dainius Kamaitis presented credentials to Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia Quentin Bryce. During the conversation with the Governor-General of Australia, bilateral relations and perspectives of closer cultural cooperation and youth exchange were discussed.

In 2007, bilateral Lithuanian and Australian trade turnover totalled 20.82 million Litas. Coal dominated the list of Lithuanian exported goods, while almost half of import from Australia was wool.

On the eve of the presentation of credentials, D.Kamaitis met with members of the Lithuanian community in Canberra, headed by Jonas Mockūnas. On 3 October in Sidney, another meeting with the Lithuanian community of this town will be organised at the Lithuanian club ‘Dainava’.

Q.Bryce and D.Kamaitis (photo: protocol service of the Governor-General of Australia)Ambassador D.Kamaitis, with residence in Tokyo, is the first Lithuanian Ambassador accredited to Australia. A Consulate, headed by a Lithuanian Honorary Consul General, is based in Melbourne.

Australian Ambassador to Lithuania resides in Stockholm, and a Consulate headed by Australian Honorary Consul General functions in Vilnius.

Lithuania and Australia established diplomatic relations on 6 November 1991.
