LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR IN HUNGARY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THE COUNTRY’S PRESIDENT

On 23 November, Lithuanian Ambassador to Hungary Darius Semaška presented credentials to the President of the Republic of Hungary Ferenc Madl. Darius Semaška became the first constantly residing Lithuanian ambassador in Hungary. Accepting the credentials the Hungarian President rejoiced at Lithuania’s, as a close partner of Hungary in the EU and NATO, decision to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and to establish an embassy in Budapest. In course of the conversation the President Ferenc Madl showed interest in development of Lithuanian state, its relations with neighbour countries, participation in peacekeeping and peace enforcement operations. The President was also interested in ways of solving the problem of double citizenship in Lithuania. On 5 December a referendum on this issue is organised in Hungary, and this question has become topical in debates of the Government and opposition.
