LITHUANIAN AMBASSADOR: HISTORY OF THE BALTIC STATES SHOWS HOW TO EMBRACE FREEDOM OVERCOMING OPPRESSION

On 6 October in the state of New Jersey, Ambassador of Lithuania to the U.S. Žygimantas Pavilionis, Consul General in New York Valdemaras Sarapinas, Normans Penke, the Permanent Representative of Latvia to the United Nations, Margus Kolga, the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations, and representatives from the communities of the Baltic States in the U.S. celebrated the traditional Day of Baltic Unity.

According to the Ambassador, the unity of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia is not only important because of their common history and significant accomplishments over the past decade, but also because of the message about sustainable freedom that is sent to the world.

“It is possible to defend human dignity and gain freedom even from the strongest totalitarian regime. It is also possible to transform our homelands into advanced, progressive and highly developed European countries,” Pavilionis said.

He added that the Baltic States were ready to share their experience of successful reforms with other countries, which aim to accelerate progress and gain freedom.

At the celebration, the Ambassador asked participants to help maintain the attention of the United States Government and Congress to the security issues of the Baltic region.

Consul General thanked one of the youngest Lithuanian communities in the United States for the initiative to organize this celebration and stressed that the strength of the Baltic States lied in their unity.
