Lithuanian Ambassador and Speaker of Slovak National Council discuss bilateral issues, international agenda
On 9 September in Bratislava, Ambassador of Lithuania Loreta Zakarevičienė met with the Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini. The meeting focused on important bilateral issues and international agenda, the migration problem and promotion of parliamentary cooperation between Lithuania and Slovakia.
Ambassador Zakarevičienė underlined that Lithuania would show solidarity with other EU member states in addressing the refugee crisis and had been taking families fleeing the military conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Pellegrini assured that Slovakia supported Lithuania’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and was ready to share its own accession experience. Meanwhile, Slovakia would take interest in Lithuania’s experience of preparation to hold the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union and in lessons learned. Slovakia will hold the Presidency from July to December 2016.
Lithuanian Ambassador Zakarevičienė resides in Vienna, the capital of Austria. The Embassy of Lithuania in Austria is also accredited to Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia.
