Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, paid a working visit to Vilnius on 24 April. He had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Linas Linkevičius, where intensive bilateral cooperation was discussed and the necessity to continue developing economic ties was endorsed.

The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs informed his counterpart about a security situation in Eastern Ukraine. Both ministers emphasised the significance of the Minsk agreements and of retaining sanctions against the Russian Federation as long as the Minsk agreements were not fully implemented. They underlined that the Ukrainian case, including on-going aggression against the country and the situation in occupied Crimea and in the areas of Eastern Ukraine still controlled by armed militants, should unquestionably be on an international agenda.

“Despite on-going military aggression against Ukraine, the country has made a big progress in several recent years. It is important that Ukraine should proceed with this path and should carry out the necessary reforms,” Linkevičius said. He urged Ukraine to actively engage in preparations for the 5th Eastern Partnership Summit scheduled for Brussels in November.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister thanked Lithuania for its unequivocal support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, its EU integration agenda and assistance in implementing reforms.

There are more than ten high-level Lithuanian experts currently working in Ukraine. They are delegated by Lithuania or work for Ukrainian institutions and for representative offices of the EU, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and for other international organisations in Ukraine in business regulation, law, law enforcement, security, defence, and other fields.
