LITHUANIA WILL FULFIL FUNCTIONS OF THE NATO CONTACT POINT EMBASSY IN BELARUS AND MOLDOVA

The North Atlantic Council has entrusted Lithuania with the functions of the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Belarus and Moldova. The mission of representing the Alliance in Belarus has been assigned to Lithuania for a third consecutive term already (Lithuania has been carrying out this activity since 2004), while in Moldova Lithuania starts its duties on 1 January 2009. In both countries, the missions will continue until 31st December 2010.

The general task of the NATO Contact Point Embassies is to disseminate information about the activities of the Alliance, to assist in forming contacts with the local media and authorities.

Effective fulfilment of these functions allows for the development of close relations between the Alliance and its partners.

The allies estimate activities of the Lithuanian Embassy, as the NATO Contact Point Embassy in Belarus, particularly well.
