Lithuania will contribute to the Council of Europe’s assistance to Ukraine

On 2 February, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the Council of Europe Vytautas Leškevičius signed an agreement with the Council of Europe on Lithuania’s voluntary contribution to the partial financing for the implementation of the Action Plan for Ukraine.

Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni thanked for Lithuania’s contribution, stressing that each country’s contribution was very important both for Ukraine, which was carrying out reforms under extremely difficult conditions, and for the Council of Europe – the organisation that aimed to help countries give due regard to human rights, standards of democracy and the rule of law.

The Action Plan for Ukraine 2015–2017 is a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and Ukrainian authorities. This Action Plan intends to support Ukraine in implementing reforms with human rights, democracy and the rule of law at their centre.
