Lithuania welcomes the conclusion of the Serbian-Montenegrian agreement on the reorganization of the Serbian-Montenegrian relations, reached on 14 March 2002.
Lithuania strongly hopes this common achievement would be an important factor in bringing peace and stability to the Balkan region and Europe in general, and would lead to a better future, economic prosperity, well-being of the people.
Lithuania considers the signing of the agreement a beginning of new Serbian-Montenegrian relations on the path of European integration. This would open new horizons for relations with the EU as well as represent continuing aspiration to live together sharing common values and principles.
Lithuania appreciates endeavours made by the EU toward reaching a mutually acceptable agreement and its substantial contribution to the negotiations process.
As a state holding the chairmanship in the Council of Europe, Lithuania affirms its commitment to pay major attention to the events in the Balkans.
Lithuania has been contributing to the peace process in the Balkans and actively participating in EU, NATO and ESCO activities for years.
