LITHUANIA WELCOMES PROGRESS IN THE EU-UKRAINE NEGOTIATIONS ON ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT

On 5 September at the session of the Permanent Ukraine-Lithuania Commission on European Integration in Palanga, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Egidijus Meilūnas welcomed the successful EU-Ukraine negotiations on Association Agreement and the progress made in talks on a Free Trade Agreement.

Lithuanian and Ukrainian representatives hoped that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement would be signed at the EU-Ukraine Summit, which is due in December in Brussels.

The deep and comprehensive free trade agreement is an integral part of the Association Agreement.

The Commission discussed the process of European integration in Ukraine, its challenges and Lithuania’s institutional support.

Participants of the meeting reviewed progress of the cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine, shared Lithuania’s experience in the fields of customs valuation and veterinary, as well as in the liberalization of road transportation services.

They also discussed Lithuania’s electronic tax declaration system, the process of increasing responsibly in internal affairs system, the takeover of regulation and procedures in fisheries.

At the session of the Commission, E.Meilūnas headed the Lithuanian delegation and special representative of the Government of Ukraine for the EU Affairs Valery Piatnitski led the Ukrainian delegation.

Chairmen of the Permanent Ukraine-Lithuania Commission on European Integration signed the protocol of the 7th session of the Permanent Commission.

The participants of the session watched the game between Ukraine and Belgium of the Europe Men’s Basketball Championship in Klaipėda.

Established in 2003 by the Lithuanian-Ukrainian bilateral Intergovernmental Cooperation Council, the Ukraine-Lithuania Commission on European Integration has held its seventh session.
