Lithuania together with Ukraine celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius extended his warmest congratulations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. A letter of congratulations stresses that Lithuania stands ready together in support to Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and will be happy to continue sharing its experience and expertise, as Ukraine continues its European path of reforms.

“Ukraine has commenced an impressive record of reforms in areas of anticorruption, justice and public administration. It remains important to maintain this momentum for EU-Ukraine relations to become even closer. A provisional application of the EU-Ukraine Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade since 2016 provides new opportunities for the Ukrainian people and businesses. We hope that in the nearest future Ukrainians will also be able to enjoy benefits of a visa-free regime with the EU,” reads the Foreign Minister’s letter.

On 24 August, Lithuania together with Ukraine will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence – the colours of the national flag of Ukraine will decorate the building of the Town Hall of Kaunas and a festive concert will be held in Vilnius.

Ukraine declared its independence on 24 August 1991. Lithuania and Ukraine established diplomatic relations on 12 December 1991.
