LITHUANIA TOGETHER WITH INTERNATIONAL DONORS PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO MOLDOVA
On 12 December in Brussels European Commission and the World Bank organized a meeting of the Consultative Group of Donors for Moldova, where international donor community’s assistance to Moldova was discussed.
International donors - the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations Development Programme, the European Commission, the EU Member States, the U.S., Japan and Norway that took part in the meeting confirmed that they would continue to provide assistance to Moldova.
At the meeting Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the EU Ambassador Rytis Martikonis underlined that Moldova’s path of reforms is similar to Lithuania’s one. Ambassador confirmed Lithuania’s readiness to support implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan and to continue projects in the fields of European integration, strengthening of administrative capacities, customs activities, standardization, veterinary medicine and phytosanitary. Attention will also be paid to education of civic society, strengthening of independent press and spread of democratic values in the Transnistrian region.
The value of Lithuania’s development assistance projects in Moldova is 280 thousand litas (€81 thousand). Several projects are implemented together with the United Kingdom and the U.S. Next year it is planned to allocate more funds to assistance projects.
