LITHUANIA TO SHARE WITH ARMENIA ITS EUROPEAN INTEGRATION EXPERIENCE
On 18 October the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Antanas Valionis and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vartan Oskanian signed a Joint statement on regional cooperation and assistance in the field of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
The document outlines both countries’ cooperation in transfer of Lithuania’s Euro-Atlantic integration experience to Armenia.
The ministers discussed the perspectives of bilateral relations, underlined the necessity to strengthen economic cooperation, considered possible Lithuania’s assistance in implementation of the European Neighborhood Policy Action Plan for Armenia.
Armenian Foreign Minister informed about the preparations for referendum on the country’s Constitution amendments, presented the main aspects of Armenia’s foreign policy and expressed hope that the start of Turkey’s EU accession negotiations will prompt Turkey to normalize relations with Armenia.
Minister Oskanian welcomed Lithuania’s regional cooperation initiatives and supported the proposal to organize the meeting of foreign ministers of Baltic and Southern Caucasus states in December in Brussels. According to Antanas Valionis this meeting is an excellent opportunity to discuss the contents and agenda of so called “3+3” (three Baltic and three South Caucasian states) cooperation and also an introduction to six heads of the state meeting due to take place in Vilnius next spring.
