Lithuania to participate in NATO’s Annual Crisis Management Exercise

On 4-10 March, Lithuania will participate in the Annual Crisis Management Exercise 2015 (CMX-15).

Exercises were designed to rehearse decision-making procedures and crisis response measures. It involves civilian and military staffs in Allied capitals, at NATO Headquarters and in both Operations and Transformation Strategic Commands. The exercise also checks the Alliance’s technical feasibility and rehearses the existing national decision-making processes at the strategic political-military level.

According to this year’s exercise scenario, the crisis will be developing between two non-NATO states. The scenario contains a humanitarian and maritime dimension, with implications for the security of the Allies. By efforts of Lithuania, the scenario includes also elements related to Lithuania’s energy security.

The Alliance’s all 28 member countries, NATO bodies and officials will participate in the exercise. Alongside NATO’s member countries, Australia, Finland, Japan, Sweden and Ukraine will participate in the CMX15 as partners. South Korea, New Zealand and Georgia will observe it. The exercise will allow for a consultation with representatives of international organizations, such as the United Nations, the European Union, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The Alliance’s CMX takes place since 1992. Lithuania will participate in it for the 7th time.
