LITHUANIA TO HOST A MEETING OF EU STATE SECRETARIES AND SECRETARIES GENERAL
On 17 May in Vilnius, the Chancellor of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jūratė Raguckienė will chair a meeting of EU State Secretaries and Secretaries General. This meeting is the first international event of Lithuania’s incoming Presidency of the EU Council. The meeting is organised in cooperation with the European External Action Service (EEAS).
The EU State Secretaries and Secretaries General will discuss ways to strengthen the cooperation between the European Union and its member states in the implementation of foreign policy, representation of the EU in third countries and sharing information. The meeting will also discuss priorities for the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council and the Eastern Partnership initiative.
Pierre Vimont, Executive Secretary General, and David O’Sullivan, Chief Operating Officer, will participate in the meeting.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) is the EU’s diplomatic corps. It supports the EU foreign affairs chief - High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton - in conducting the common foreign and security policy. At the moment, 22 Lithuanian citizens work for the EEAS.
The traditional summit of EU State Secretaries and Secretaries General takes place every half year before each rotating Presidency.
